Event Prayer: 9/11 Ceremony

Event Details

On Saturday, September 13 I will be singing the national anthem at a ceremony for 9/11 that is the opening for Souled Out Coffee House in Huntingdon Valley.

Verse To Abide In

“You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭115‬:‭11‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Digging Deeper

This is part of the verses  where “In God we trust.” came from. The phrase first appeared on U. S. coins in 1864 and in 1956 was established as a law, signed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower, declaring it as our national motto.

Who do I fear, respect, honor, change my actions and thoughts for?  To whom or to what do I run to for help?  Just as Israel was called to trust in God, may it be so for us as well.  For we have been grafted into his family (Romans 11:11-24).

As 9/11 approaches we have opportunity to pause and remember this motto/this verse and pray for our nation.

Let's Pray

“To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever.” (1 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭17‬a ‭ESV)‬‬  We look back at 9/11 and see the thousands that turned to you and saw your hand in story after story of the work you did, the love you moved people to share with one another, the sacrifices that were made.  We remember the deeds of the Lord. We remember your wonders of old.  We ponder all your work.  We meditate on your mighty deeds.  Your way, O God, is holy.  What God is great like our God?  You are the God who works wonders.  You have made known your might among the peoples (Psalm 77:11-14 ESV). Yes, may this be so—your name to be made known—to our families, our cities, our states, our nation, and ultimately to the ends of the earth.  May hearts across our nation be softened and prepared to receive the gift of grace and sacrifice that is matched by none other in Jesus Christ.  Help us to trust in you with our whole hearts.  Help us to run to Jesus alone, because he alone is our help and our shield.  In his name we pray, Savior, Champion, Friend.  Amen.
