God's Power Not Mine, 2 Corinthians 4:6-7

Verses To Abide In

“For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Digging Deeper

How has God been revealing his treasure to you lately? Have you seen the transformative work of the gospel in your heart or mind recently, the work of his sanctification? How so?

For me, God keeps growing me in not being anxious about getting that never-ending to-do list done, worrying that I won't have the physical strength for it all and will miss something important.  The gospel comes alive to me again when I remember that his grace is sufficient for me…to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

I should not be surprised that the prayer in my devotional reading the day that I write this (Saturday afternoon) goes so beautifully with what I am meditating on.  The prayer below is from Paul Tripp's Everyday Gospel Bible devotional on Day 249.

Let's Pray

“Savior God, I praise you for the strength for today. I exalt your name as the God of fresh starts and new beginnings. Thank you for your faithfulness to your power, your covenant loyalty to your chosen ones. I magnify your name, for you are the one who meets his people with fresh grace and new mercies. May I love and serve you with gratitude today and every day.  May Jesus be my only comfort and joy. I pray in his precious name, amen.”
