Verses to Abide In
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.” Jeremiah 29:11-12 NIV
From the Heart
Have you experienced a time of suffering or hopelessness when you came to the Lord, prayed to him, and felt he was listening to you?
I shared my testimony recently at church and was reminded of suffering with my health and how God gave sips of living water to drink through little slips of paper I would read throughout the day that had Bible verses on them.
As I would read his word and feel such comfort and peace, even in my pain and weaknesses—that was what God listening felt like to me. I felt his comfort as if it was the whisper of his voice saying, “I am here. I will never leave you nor forsake you. I am holding you in my everlasting arms of love.”
I pray God gives you that kind of comfort as he listens to you as you pray to him.
Let's Pray
Father of lights, Creator and Sustainer of the heavens, we trust that every good and every perfect gift comes from you; we trust that you are perfect and never change, like shifting shadows (James 1:17 AMP; NIV).
We speak the truth to our hearts—“You listen. You are trustworthy. You are loving.”
Forgive me right now if I have any unconfessed sin that would be blocking me from you. Forgive me for _______________. God has surely listened and has heard my prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me (Psalm 66:17–20)!
As we face the good, and as we do battle in the troubles, help us to keep alert and to persevere, coming to you, praising you and giving thanks to you, as well as praying for ourselves and for others (Philippians 4:6-7; Ephesians 6:18).
The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song, I give thanks to him (Psalm 28:7 ESV). Yes! We give thanks! We praise you! In the name of Jesus and through your Spirit. Amen!
