Verse To Abide In
“for my eyes have seen your salvation”
Luke 2:30 ESV
Digging Deeper
“Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him.”
Luke 2:25 ESV
“…and the Holy Spirit was upon him.”
This resonated with me because often I want to project to Easter during Christmas. I want to remember all that Jesus did and will do. But this is such a great reminder to me that even though Jesus was only a baby at this point, God was still reigning and active. I believe what Jesus spoke of in John 15 can apply here with Simeon even though it is in a different context:
“But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.”
John 15:26 ESV
The Holy Spirit was bearing witness about Jesus to and through Simeon! This makes me so excited that I get to bear witness about Jesus too—just like Jesus’ disciples (John 15:27)—of the same salvation that Simeon said his eyes had seen!
Let's Pray
Abba, we are in awe of the vastness of your plans and purposes set and carried out through the ages. Only you could keep track and make plans and reign over the course of thousands of years. May we be those who have beautiful feet that bring good news. May we proclaim peace. May we bring the good news that the God of Israel reigns! May we be able to live and speak of how we have seen your salvation just as Simeon did (Isaiah 52:7-8 NIV, NLT)! May our transformed hearts be a testimony about your saving grace work in us, with a sincere love toward others that you have loved us with (Romans 12:2, 9-10, Ephesians 5:1-2). Thank you, Father, for your love, for sending your son (John 3:16). We love you too. In the name of Jesus, Son of God, and through your Spirit, Helper, Advocate. Amen.
