Who Trusts: Jeremiah 17:7

Verse to Abide in

““Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord.”
Jeremiah 17:7 ESV

Digging Deeper

“Perhaps you have read these verses or even memorized them.  But let me ask you, do you really trust God? This question has two possible meanings. The first is "Can you trust God?" Is He dependable in times of adversity? But the second meaning is also critical: "Can you trust God?" Do you have such a relationship with God and such a confidence in Him that you believe He is with you in your anxiety, even though you don't see any evidence of His presence and His power?”

“Are you going to judge God by the circumstances you don’t understand or judge the circumstances in the light of the character of God?”  -Linda Dillow, Calm My Anxious Heart, pp. 161, 162

Let’s Pray

Abba,
You are in control.  Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the Lord’s purpose that will prevail (Proverbs 18:21 ESV).  You know my tendency to try to control and help you out. I know that “helping out” is what leads to an anxious heart. Forgive me. Help me not to trust in my own strength, in my own strategies. Help me not to control or manipulate.  Please, God, teach me what it means to not only trust you, to believe, but also make you my total trust— to rely on you, to make the Lord my hope and confident expectation (Jeremiah 17:7 AMP).

Help me to trust in and rely confidently on you, Lord, with all my heart.  And help me not to rely on my own insight or understanding. Enable me, in all my ways, to know and acknowledge and recognize you, And I will trust you will make my paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block my way] (Proverbs 3:5-6 AMP).”  Yes, in your name, Jesus, who is before all things and holds all things together (Colossians 1:17).  Amen.
